According to the work schedule made by the Education Quality Evaluation Agency of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Shandong Provincial Education Department (SPED), with the progress of online evaluation, the expert group on undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation led by Professor JIN Zhihao (Vice President of Shenyang University of Chemical Technology), entered SDUT to inspect and guide the undergraduate talent cultivation work from December 6th to 8th.
SDUT held an offline conference for undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation in the conference room on the second floor of north building of Xingyuan Hotelon the morning of December 7th. This conference was presided over by JIN Zhihao. SDUT leaders present at the conference included HU Xingyu, LI Yuxia, DENG Changliang, YANG Yun, SU Shoubo, NIE Faliang, GUO Qingbing, CHEN Shengwei, CUI Huanyong, CHEN Jing. The conference was also attended by principals in charge of different departments, of all schools as well as all staff members of the Evaluation and Construction office of SDUT.
JIN Zhihao introduced the work done by the expert group since the launch of online audit and evaluation and emphasized the importance of undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation. He pointed out that the expert group aims to promote the implementing of “students-oriented” principle and “returning to common sense, duty, original aspiration and dream” to realize universities’ development of connotation, characteristics, and innovation. The expert group came with problems, focusing on the difficulties in moral education, the obstacles in university development, and the pain points strongly reflected by teachers and students, in order to seek feasible solutions. They also came with sincerity to solve practical problems, extract typical experience and achievements for demonstration and promotion, and promote rectification and improvement.
President LI Yuxia made a presentation on the audit and evaluation work done in SDUT. She introduced the basic situation of SDUT and the progress of the evaluation and construction work, explained the relevant issues that experts were concerned about in the 2022 status data analysis report, and summarized the unique practices in undergraduate education and teaching work. In the end, she also proposed specific measures to further promote the high-quality development of undergraduate education and teaching and earnestly requested experts to inquire into problems and provide valuable opinions and suggestions for SDUT.
After the conference, the expert group, accompanied by LI Yuxia and others, inspected the Da Hong Lu Maker Space, the School of Fine Arts, the 23rd Student Apartment, the New Polyurethane Materials Research Institute, the Smart Grid Research Institute, the Analytical Testing Center, and the Teaching Quality Evaluation Center.
An exchange meeting on undergraduate education and teaching audit and evaluation was held in the conference room of Xingyuan Hotel on the afternoon of December 8th.
JIN Zhihao presided over the exchange meeting and, on behalf of the expert group, reported on the work done during the online and offline undergraduate teaching and education audit and evaluation in SDUT. He pointed out that after nearly a month of evaluation, the expert group believes that SDUT fully implements the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, adheres to “the Integration of Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Aesthetic and Labor Education”, and cultivates high-level applied talents with high quality. The development goals have been accurately defined, plans and measures have been effectively implemented, and development momentum is sound. SDUT adheres to the principle of “students-oriented”, promotes “return to common sense, duty, original aspiration and dream”, attaches great importance to the new round of audit and evaluation, implements the concept of “student-centered, output-oriented, and continuous improvement”. During the progress, SDUT sticks to promote construction through evaluation, and has achieved significant results.
JIN Zhihao emphasized the distinctive features and highlights of undergraduate education and teaching of SDUT. Firstly, it promotes the comprehensive reform of “education by the whole people, through the whole progress, and in all-round”. Secondly, it attaches importance to undergraduate education and teaching. Thirdly, it reasonably optimizes the professional layout and comprehensively deepens professional construction. Fourthly, it integrates innovation and entrepreneurship education throughout the entire process of talent cultivation. Fifthly, it emphasizes the enhancement of the connotation in “five dimensions”.
The members of the expert group made respective speeches, fully affirming the achievements of SDUT’s undergraduate education and teaching. In the meanwhile, they pointed out the problems existing in the training plan, textbook construction, internship and practical training, academic assessment, and teaching staff, and proposed specific improvement suggestions.
HU Xingyu, the Secretary of the Party Committee, made a statement. He stated that SDUT will endeavor to optimize our work in the following three aspects with a resolute attitude, solid work style, and effective measures. Firstly, we must adhere to a problem-oriented approach, deeply explore the root causes of problems, and develop rectification plans. Secondly, it is necessary to gradually consolidate responsibilities, strengthen the rectification process, and form a long-term mechanism. Thirdly, we must deepen reform and innovation, focus on improving quality and efficiency, and cultivate a culture of quality.
