SDUT held an online video meeting on Assessment of Undergraduate Education and Teaching in the 2nd floor conference room of the north building of Xingyuan Hotel on November 13th, and officially launched the assessment work. The panel experts of the assessment attended the meeting online. HU Xingyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT, presented the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was presided over by LI Yuxia, president of SDUT. Other leaders attending the meeting were YANG Yun, SU Shoubo, GUO Qingbing, CHEN Shengwei, CUI Huanyong, CONG Hailin. Directors of SDUT’s major departments, party secretaries and deans of each school, and the staff of SDUT’s assessment and construction office also attended the meeting.
HU Xingyu made a brief introduction of SDUT in his speech. He expressed that the assessment on undergraduate education and teaching is not only a comprehensive review of the undergraduate cultivation, but also a great encouragement and impetus for promoting the concept of running the university, which is of great significance for boosting SDUT’s high-quality development.
In order to ensure that the assessment on undergraduate education and teaching can successfully carry out and achieve expected results, HU Xingyu, on behalf of SDUT, made the following statements: “First, we must take a correct attitude towards assessment experts with honesty. Our university should fully demonstrate the state of undergraduate education and teaching of our school, humbly accept the opinions and guidance proposed by experts, thus identify and face up to the existing shortcomings, so as to take proper measures to make rectification. Second, we must cooperate closely and offer good service to the experts. The staff should strengthen organization and coordination, take the initiative to ensure the relations and service guarantee to experts, so that the assessment work is well developed. Third, we must carefully sort out suggestions that experts put forward of rectification. It is necessary to take this assessment as an important opportunity to attentively organize and take advice presented by experts, draw up targeted measures for rectification, thus truly promoting construction, reform, management and strength through assessment.
LI Yuxia reported on the development of SDUT from three aspects: the development situation in recent years, the preparation made for the assessment, and the characteristics of SDUT’s undergraduate education and teaching.
LI Yuxia stated that SDUT attached great importance to the assessment work, and focused on the following four aspects in the process of preparing for it: Firstly, carefully getting to know the requirements of the assessment and making efforts to “learning deeply and understanding thoroughly”; Secondly, earnestly implementing the assessment and construction scheme and working hard on “overall planning”; Thirdly, solidly carrying out self-assessment and self-construction and concentrating on “mutual cooperation”; Fourthly, thoroughly analyzing and solving the problems and striving for “continuous improvement” .
LI Yuxia stressed that SDUT would adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, promote the “5-dimension Education”, continue to deepen integration between industry and education, and strive to cultivate high-quality and application-oriented talents with all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labour education, so as to make contributions to the national and local socioeconomic development.
Professor JIN Zhihao, leader of the assessment expert group and vice president of Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, briefed the assessment work from following five aspects: the significance and changes, the purpose, the task, the way and working process, and the implementation of the concept of community of shared quality.
JIN Zhihao emphasized that the assessment, with the standards of morality education, with a focus on Five degrees, with a central task of student development, problem-oriented and based on the facts, aimed to understand the real situation of university running, which could help the university to sum up its experience and highlights in education, find out the main problems, and analyze their subjective and objective causes. Through communicating and providing opinions and suggestions on the university’s work, the university would have access to further high-quality development.
This assessment is divided into two parts according to the arrangement: online assessment and on-site assessment.The online assessment consists of two stages. The first stage is from November 12th to 17th,when the expert group comprehensively will review the materials submitted by the university and fully grasps the overall situation of the university and then seek problems.The second stage is from November 18th to December 3rd,when the expert group will make a further inspection through listening to the online lectures,interviewing and discussing, checking materials and other ways.
