SDUT Held Promotion Meeting on Assessment of Undergraduate Education and Teaching

SDUT held a promotion meeting on Assessment of Undergraduate Education and Teaching in the lecture hall of No.3 Teaching Building comprehensively push forward the assessment work. School leaders attending the meeting includes HU Xingyu, LI Yuxia, YANG Yun, SU Shoubo, GUO Qingbing, CHEN Shengwei and CHEN Jing. And the meeting was presided over by LI Yuxia, president of SDUT.

HU Xingyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT, made a speech. He pointed out that launching the work of undergraduate teaching assessment was an important way for the national education department to implement the “Four Services” and undergraduate education in the new era, as well as lead the connotation development, characteristic development and innovation development of colleges and universities, which was related to the honor and high-quality development of SDUT. 

In order to better carry out the assessment work in next stage, Hu Xingyu proposed five requirements: First, We must boost confidence and strengthen the sense of responsibility. We must further clarify the division of responsibilities, earnestly perform everyone’s duty, enhance mutual coordination and cooperation, thus comprehensively improving the efficiency of preparation work of the assessment.Second, we must gain a better grasp of the assessment standards and theories thoroughly to improve our skills. We must comprehensively and deeply study the index system of the assessment, target to carry out extended and inquiry study, so as to deeply understand the connotation and requirement of the index system. And according to the actual situation of our university, we should specifically enhance learning to grasp key points of the assessment, such as its principles.Third, we must continue to review and refine the self-assessment report. We must objectively and accurately evaluate the results of our work in education and teaching by examining our work term by term in accordance with the standard of assessment index system, meanwhile combined with the norm-referenced date of similar universities, so that the work will be better and the self-assessment report will be further refined. Fourth, taking critical actions to improve the work of self-assessment and rectification. We must sort out the problems and make a list of rectification targeted on the weaknesses found in self-assessment and daily teaching work, take strong measures in a limited time through analyzing the shortcomings, and focus on rectifying the problems with quick action. We also have to establish a long-term mechanism to maintain the effectiveness of rectification. Fifth, strengthening the organization and making full preparation for the assessment. We should formulate a program to meet the assessment as soon as possible, clarifying the responsibilities, requirements and standards of the work, refining work procedures, and perfecting work details. And moreover, we need to plan ahead and practice ahead to solve all kinds of problems that may occur in the process of assessment, and lead teachers and students to meet the assessment in a good state. 

LI Yuxia presided over the meeting and stressed that undergraduate teaching assessment was an important event in the development process of SDUT. The whole university should further advance the thinking and understanding, further enhance the sense of responsibility, mission and urgency, strive to make comprehensive promotion and key breakthrough, and grasp every detail of the assessment work with full participation and in all-round way. And we should keep on the work spirit of “strictness, pursuit of truth, carefulness, practicability and efficiency” and everyone should take their responsibilities, so as to truly achieve the purpose of promoting construction, reform, management and strength through assessment, and constantly improve the undergraduate teaching quality.

At the meeting, CHEN Shengwei, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, vice President and director of SDUT’s Assessment and Construction Office, systematically sorted out the key points of the SDUT’s undergraduate teaching assessment work, deeply analyzed the problems existing in work and put forward practical solutions, and made arrangements for the following work.

Participants of the meeting also included directors of SDUT’s major departments, Secretaries of Party Committee, deans, deputy secretaries in charge of student work and deputy deans in charge of teaching of all schools, the director, deputy director and staff of SDUT’s assessment and construction office.
