Normal Majors Joint Accreditation Expert Group from MOE Inspects SDUT

Entrusted by the Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and invited by the Shandong Provincial Institute of Educational Sciences, theNormal Majors Joint Accreditation Expert Group from MOE conducted an on-site inspection of the second-level accreditation of SDUT’s Normal Chemistry and English from April 11th to 13th. The expert group was composed of 12 people. Dean of the School of Teacher Education of Nanjing Normal University—Professor YE Zhong, was the leader of the Joint Accreditation Expert Group and at the same time leader of the Chemical expert group. Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shenyang University—Professor WANG Yan, was the leader of the English expert group.

On the morning of April 11th, the on-site inspection meeting of the expert group was held in the conference room on the second floor of the North Building of Xingyuan Hotel. All members of the expert group, members of the accreditation working group of Shandong Provincial Institute of Education Sciences, and school leaders YANG Yun, CHEN Shengwei, and CHEN Jing attended the meeting. The meeting was divided into two phases. The first phase was presided over by a member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President—CHEN Shengwei. The second phase was presided over by YE Zhong.

On behalf of the Shandong Normal Majors Accreditation Center and Shandong Provincial Institute of Educational Sciences, SHEN Peixuan, the secretary of the Party Committee and president of Shandong Provincial Institute of Educational Sciences, extended welcome and thanks to experts and introduced the development of normal majors accreditation in Shandong province.

YANG Yun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT, briefly introduced SDUT, the work of teaching staff education, and the history and development status of the certified chemistry and English majors. He earnestly asked experts to voice issue their opinions, and expressed SDUT’s determination to ensure the smooth implementation of the accreditation, saying that SDUT would take the accreditation as an opportunity to make greater contributions to education through further construction, improvement and strengthen through evaluation, and cultivate more talents who can .

YE Zhong briefly explained the purpose, tasks, and requirements of the inspection. He said that every member of the expert group would respect the standards, follow the norms, abide by the discipline of accreditation work, respect the differences between the majors of different universities, strengthen communication with various departments and majors of the university in accordance with the new requirements of professional accreditation, and achieve professional, transparent and high-quality examination.

The persons in charge of Chemistry and English majors provided supplementary reports on the self-evaluation report of their respective majors from perspectives of professional overview, professional construction measures and effectiveness, continuous improvement and construction goals.

The expert group had on-site communication with heads of relevant departments regarding the common issues that need to be verified and confirmed in the two majors.

During the inspection, the expert group conducted comprehensive accreditation on the construction of chemistry and English majors through in-depth interviews, lectures, data consulting and discussions in accordance with the standards for the normal majors accreditation.

On the morning of April 13th, the feedback meeting was held in the conference room on the second floor of the North Xingyuan Hotel. Members of the expert group, members of the certification working group of Shandong Provincial Institute of Educational Sciences, as well as school leaders LI Yuxia and SU Shoubo, attended the meeting. WANG Yan hosted the meeting.

On behalf of the expert group, YE Zhong gave feedback on the overall situation of the on-site inspection. He firstly affirmed the work, efforts, and achievements made in the early stages of the two majors but also pointed out the current problems and deficiencies and proposed rectification measures. The members of the expert group pointed out problems and proposed improvement suggestions on eight primary and secondary indicators, including training objectives, graduation requirements, curriculum and teaching, cooperation and practice, teaching staff, support conditions, quality assurance, and student development.

President LI Yuxia made a statement on behalf of SDUT. She highlighted three aspects of work: firstly, we should promote continuous rectification based on problems. Secondly, we should grasp key links and deepen the reform of curriculum construction and classroom teaching. Thirdly, we should strengthen connotation education and improve the quality of teacher training.

The heads of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and School of Foreign Languages made statements, respectively.
