On the morning of September 5th, SDUT held a grand opening ceremony and military training mobilization conference for freshman class of 2023 in the square in front of Hongyuan Building. More than 11,000 freshmen from all over the country would start a new journey and write a new chapter in SDUT.

University leaders HU Xingyu, LI Yuxia, DENG Changliang, YANG Yun, SU Shoubo, GUO Qingbing, Senior Colonel WANG Peiquan, commander of Zibo Military Division, Major CHEN Maoxin, staff officer of War Preparation and Construction Department, heads of relevant functional departments and deans of schools of SDUT attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by CHEN Jing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of SDUT.
Accompanied by the solemn ceremony of hoisting the national flag, the ceremony officially began with the sound of the majestic national anthem.
President LI Yuxia, on behalf of the whole staff and students, expressed heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to all the freshmen and put forward four hopes for them with the theme of “Learn to be an adult and do your best”. Firstly, students should have a big heart and actively pursue their dreams. It is necessary to “uphold faith and righteousness, emphasize friendship, promote justice and cultivate morality” and aspire to be the idealistic and courageous youth who can endure hardship and willing to struggle in the new era. Secondly, they should learn to study and constantly improve their ability. They should study extensively, inquire accurately, reflect carefully, discriminate clearly and practice earnestly, change from passive learning to active learning in a short time, explore the truth of science, the way of engineering, the goodness of humanity, the beauty of art, and have the courage to innovate and practice. Thirdly, freshmen should learn to be tolerant and always have love in their heart. They should always maintain a sincere and kind heart, be tolerant and care for their families, classmates and teachers, protect the reputation of the class and the university, and add glory to the group. Last but not the least, they should learn to be self-disciplined and constantly strengthen their willpower. Students should learn to exercise self-discipline, self-control, and self-management, walk out of the psychological comfort zone, and develop a strong heart of self-discipline.
For the upcoming military training, LI Yuxia hoped that all the freshmen would follow the command, strictly observe the discipline, train hard to become stronger, more self-disciplined, and more courageous, and successfully pass the “First Class of University” with excellent results.

It was reported that SDUT enrolled 9,425 undergraduates and 1,714 postgraduates in 2023.
