The Compilation of TheQi Chronicles under The Qilu Library Officially Commences at SDUT

On the morning of March 15th, the launching ceremony and first seminar for the compilation of The Qi Chronicles was held at Xingyuan Hotel of SDUT. Co-hosted by SDUT and Shandong Publishing Group, this event marked official launch of the compilation work for The Qi Chronicles, a key task within the The Qilu Library under “Shandong Cultural Genealogy” project.

 

People attended the ceremony included XU Yan, Major General from the National University Of Defense Technology, CHENG Shoutian, Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee Publicity Department and Director of the Film Bureau, YANG Xudong, Deputy Secretary of the the Communist Party of Zibo Municipal and Secretary of the Political and Judiciary Commission, SHEN Weilong, General Manager of Shandong Publishing Media Co., Ltd., WANG Zhimin, former Vice Chairman of the Shandong Provincial Political Consultative Conference, Honorary Dean of the Qi Culture Studies of SDUT, and Chief Editor of The Qi Chronicles, HU Xingyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT, and SU Shoubo, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President. Additionally, over 20 experts and scholars from prestigious institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Shandong University participated, along with personnel involved in the compilation of The Qi Chronicles. President LI Yuxia presided over the launching ceremony.

HU Xingyu delivered a speech on behalf of SDUT, emphasizing that Qi culture is a vital component of the Qilu culture and a significant source of Chinese culture, constituting an inexhaustible treasure trove. The compilation and publication of The Qi Chronicles together with the annotation and modernization of Qi cultural interpretations, are crucial tasks contributing to the construction of the “Shandong Cultural Genealogy” project and shaping the “one body and two wings” framework of The Qilu Library. These efforts are of paramount importance for showcasing the profound historical essence of Qi culture, exploring its contemporary value, and promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture.

 

In his speeches, CHENG Shoutian highlighted that the Qilu Land has numerous sages and a wealth of classics. The successive rollout of major cultural projects like the first volume of The Qilu Library and the collection of Chinese classics known as Confucian Canon are significant steps in deeply implementing President XI Jinping's directives on preserving and promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture. The compilation and publication of The Qi Chronicles and the exploration and display of Qi culture’s unique values bear great responsibility and hold immense significance. It is bound to contribute to the comprehensive construction of a socialist modern cultural powerhouse in Shandong Province and enhance the spiritual strength necessary for achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

SHEN Weilong expressed that as the publisher of The Qi Chronicles, Shandong Publishing Group feels a sense of duty and has confidence, determination, and capability to mobilize the entire group's resources and integrate the strengths of various sectors of society to jointly organize and execute the compilation of The Qi Chronicles, fullysupporting the publication of the cultural project.

WANG Zhimin introduced the plan and importance of compiling The Qi Chronicles. He noted that the compilation of The Qi Chronicles is one of key pillar systematic literature collections of the major document publishing project The Qilu Libraryin Shandong Province, as well as a significant academic project enhancing research on Qi culture in Shandong. It has profound significance and far-reaching influence.

Following the launch ceremony, WANG Zhimin chaired the symposium and editorial board meeting for the compilation of The Qi Chronicles. Experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the selection of versions for TheQi Chronicles, the integration of resources, and the work related to publication and distribution.

 

It is reported that The Qi Chronicles marks the first comprehensive and systematic collation of Qi cultural documents, constituting a groundbreaking cultural project. As an integral part of the “Shandong Cultural Genealogy” project, The Qi Chronicles is set to become the first systematic and richly-contented collection of Qi cultural documents within Shandong, presented in a visually appealing format. The Qi Chronicles and the published Confucian Canon are the “two wings” in the “one body and two wings” structure of The Qilu Library. This project is expected to complete this year and will be showcased during the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations event.
