From August 20th to 22nd, SDUT held the 7th Plenary (Expanded) Session of the 4th Party Committee and the Symposium on Strategic Development at SDUT’s Student Art Center Hall. The event focused on emancipating the mind, building broad consensus, accentuating our distinctive strengths, and daring to break new ground and striving to build a modern high-level university. He summarized the main work of SDUT’s Party Committee in 2025 from six key aspects: theoretical reinforcement, political construction, work style and discipline construction, organizational construction, ideological work, and Party-building leadership. Arrangements were laid out for the next step of school work, demanding that we should take political responsibility for exercising full and rigorous self-governance of the Party, further consolidate the ideological foundation of “fostering virtue and cultivating talents”, conduct the function of politic and organization of Grass-roots Party Organizations, enhance the Work Style Construction, and give stronger momentum to higher-quality development by higher-quality Party building.

Focusing on the upcoming symposium on strategic development, YU Hongbo emphasized the need to read the wider trends and define SDUT’s position, fully grasping the necessity and urgency of strategic deliberation. Discussion should zero in on high-level discipline construction, with in-depth exchanges on talent introduction and training, resource allocation, mechanism reform, cross-disciplinary synergy and platform development. The symposium, he said, must both free and unify minds, cementing a shared vision for future growth. In his concluding speech, YU called for resolute actions to implement the spirit of the 4th SDUT Party Congress. “Revolve with the larger orbit” to pool strength and sculpt academic peaks, he noted, while “spin on our own axis” to consolidate foundations and broaden the academic plateau. Pace and intensity must increase, talent introduction and training should be expanded swiftly, delivering fresh results that underpin disciplinary excellence. With a heightened sense of mission, we must sharpen three core capacities and press ahead with the construction of a modern, high-level university.

Against the backdrop of the SDUT’s broader development and the pressures, especially tasks and challenges now confronting discipline construction, President LI offered an in-depth elaboration of the “Double-Focus” initiative on disciplinary construction and analyzed the existing problems.
