Dr. Qiang Meng is currently a Provost Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at National University of Singapore (NUS). As a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore and an internationally recognized scholar in transportation, he has held multiple leadership positions at NUS, including Founding Director of the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (GRTII) (March 2022 – May 2025), Co-Director of the Land Transport Authority – NUS Transportation Research Centre (April 2016 – March 2019), and Director of the Centre for Transport Research (CTR) in CEE (April 2016 – present). His research expertise spans three critical areas: urban mobility modelling and optimization, shipping and intermodal freight transportation analysis, and quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of transport operations. Through his pioneering work in these fields, he has established himself as a leading authority in the analysis, modeling, and optimization of urban mobility, maritime transportation, and intermodal freight networks. His research has been published in over 285 articles in top transportation and logistics journals. The citation rate of his publications is 92, with total citations of 23,036 according to Google Scholar. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was listed among the Top 2% Scientists in the World in the field of logistics and transportation by Stanford University from 2019 to 2025. He is the past co-editor-in-chief of Transportation Research Part E and the associate editor of Transportation Research Part B and Transportation Science. The prestigious international academic ranking organization ScholarGPS recently released its list of Highly Ranked Scholars™ 2024. he was listed among those with ScholarGPS™ Ranks of 0.05% or better, recognizing his exceptional scholarly accomplishments. He ranked 5th among the Highly Ranked Scholars™ – Lifetime (Transport, under the discipline of Civil and Environmental Engineering) and 4th among the Highly Ranked Scholars™ – Prior 5 Years (Transport, under the same discipline), demonstrating the sustained leadership of his research achievements.
He has been honored with numerous prestigious research awards and prizes for his groundbreaking work in the field. For example, he was awarded the Best Paper of Omega – The International Journal of Management Science in 2023. In 2021, he received the Best Paper Award in Institutional Innovation at the 14th Eastern Asia Society of Transportation Studies (EASTS). He also received the TSL (Transportation Science & Logistics Society of INFORMS) Best Paper Award in Freight Transportation and Logistics in 2020, and the OCDI Takeuchi Yoshio Best Paper Award in the Field of Logistics at the 13th EASTS International Conference in 2019. His contributions to transportation research have also earned several distinguished honors, including being elected a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore in 2022, receiving the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST in 2016, and being named a Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professor by the Ministry of Education of China in 2017. Additionally, he received the Best Paper Prize at the 13th World Conference on Transportation Research (WCTR) in 2013 and the Singapore Ministry of Transport (MOT) Minister's Innovation Award in 2009. These accolades testify to his dedication and contributions to advancing transportation and logistics research.
